Olivia Goumbri, executive director of the Venezuela Information Office in D.C., who we're proud to have worked with in the past, has asked us to help get the word out about these two events, especially the Friday event, which has just come together and should be a very special and stimulating occasion:

1) "The Dynamics of Cultural Diversity: Inclusion in Venezuela" panel discussion and reception Friday, May 9, 6:30 p.m., at the Mission Cultural Center, 2868 Mission St., San Francisco, (415) 821-1155.

2) Los Vasallos Del Sol in concert, presented by the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela Saturday, May 10, 1-3 p.m., at the Esplanade, 760 Howard St., San Francisco.

In case the graphics below don't come through, I've attached a couple of photos of the troupe. Enjoy!!!

Please join us as we discuss the African and indigenous musical heritage of Venezuela and its new cultural policies that foster a plural vision and the promotion of the diversity of its peoples.  This first U.S. tour for Los Vasallos del Sol is presented by the Embassy of Venezuela and sponsored by Citgo Corporation in collaboration with Fundación Bigott, a private cultural foundation. The tour exemplifies Venezuela's new vision of cultural inclusiveness and promotion of cultural diversity.  The 28-member ensemble interprets diverse music and dance traditions that portray Venezuelan heritage, from the African-inspired rhythms of the Caribbean to the folk ballads of the inland plains.  The group has recorded five albums, most recently their 15-year anniversary disc, Quince años (2005).
