Words Upon The Waters: A Healing Benefit
for Katrina by Bay Area Poets and Artists will take place on Sunday, June
25th at 3 PM at Anna's Jazz Island, 2120 Allston Way, near the
downtown Berkeley Bart station. Donations of $5.00 and up will be
requested at the door.
All proceeds will benefit Common Ground
Health Clinic. Common Ground's mission is to provide short
term relief for victims of hurricane disasters in the gulf coast
region. Common Ground is a community-initiated volunteer
organization offering assistance, mutual aid and support. The work gives
hope to communities by working with them, providing for their immediate
needs and emphasizes people working together to rebuild their lives in
sustainable ways. Our goal was to give funds to Centers for
Independent Living in Mississippi, but as of this date, we have not had
any direct communications, but are hopeful that communication
will take place soon.
Participating artists have created a book
of poetry, which will be on sale at the benefit. All proceeds will go
to Common Ground, and Centers for Independent Living.
